Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo geral analisar as representações sociais do Serviço Militar Obrigatório (SMO), construídas pelos instrutores e monitores militares que atuam no Curso de Formação de Soldados (CFSD) na Aeronáutica, na área Rio de Janeiro, nos anos de 2018 e 2019. A fundamentação teórica disserta sobre a Infantaria da Aeronáutica, com um breve histórico até a atualidade, e explana sobre o CFSD, ministrado nas Unidades de Infantaria da Aeronáutica. Aborda sobre o Serviço Militar (SM) no Brasil, enfatizando seus aspectos legais. Tece considerações sobre a origem dos estudos em Representações Sociais, o que vem a ser essa teoria e por que estudá-la, bem como a discute tomando como objeto o SMO. A metodologia consiste em duas etapas distintas. Na primeira etapa, por meio de um estudo piloto, foi aplicada a técnica de grupo focal a 15 instrutores e monitores do Grupo de Segurança e Defesa dos Afonsos (GSD-AF), no intuito de guiar a segunda etapa, que compreende a técnica de entrevista semiestruturada, aplicada a 38 sujeitos, entre instrutores e monitores que atuam ou já atuaram no CFSD, oriundos das Unidades de Infantaria da Aeronáutica, área Rio de Janeiro, mais especificamente ESD-SC, GSD-RJ, GSD-GL e GSD-AF. Nos grupos focais, foi possível identificar diferentes abordagens sobre o SMO, relacionadas à formação e à qualificação, aos posicionamentos favoráveis e desfavoráveis à obrigatoriedade do Serviço Militar, aos aspectos motivacionais do SMO, às reflexões deste Serviço como instrumentos de Defesa Nacional e função assistencialista, bem como apontamentos sobre seleção e alistamento. O universo nocional construído coletivamente durante as discussões suscitadas nos grupos focais foi valioso para acessar a linguagem dos sujeitos e, nesse sentido, os posicionamentos dos instrutores e monitores contribuíram para a elaboração de um conjunto de perguntas que permitiu explorar as realidades e percepções trazidas sobre o SMO e a construção de um roteiro de entrevista semiestruturada. Os resultados apontam que os grupos adotam posturas convergentes frente às situações, por atuarem na área Rio de Janeiro. Estes também compreendem o SMO como momento de formação do combatente mobilizável, e o remetem para o despertar de valores básicos e necessários. Abstract: This research aims generally analyzing the social representations of the Military Compulsory Service, built by the military instructors and monitors who work in the Aviation Course in the Rio de Janeiro area, during the years 2018 and 2019. The theoretical foundation stands on the Aeronautical Infantry, with a brief history until the current days, and explains about the CFSD, taught at the Infantry Units of the Brazilian Air Force. It addresses the Military Service (MS) in Brazil, emphasizing its legal aspects. It carries opinions about the origin of the studies in Social Representations, what comes to be this theory and why to study it, as well as it discusses it by taking as object the Military Compulsory Service. The methodology consists of two distinct stages. In the first stage, the focus group technique was applied to 15 instructors and monitors of the Afonso Defense and Security Group (GSD-AF), in order to lead to the second stage. This one includes the interview technique, which was applied to 38 subjects, among instructors and monitors who work or have already performed in the CFSD, from the Infantry Units of the Aeronautics, Rio de Janeiro, specifically ESD-SC, GSD-RJ, GSD-GL and GSD-AF. In the focus groups was possible to identify different approaches to Military Compulsory Service, related to training and qualification, to favorable and unfavorable positions to the Military Compulsory Service, to the motivational aspects of the SMO, to the reflections of this Service as National Defense instruments and assistance function, such as notes on selection and enlistment. The notional universe, constructed collectively during the discussions, raised during the focus groups, was valuable to access the subjects' language. Besides, in this sense, the positions of the instructors and monitors contributed to the elaboration of a set of questions that allowed the exploration of the realities and perceptions brought about the Military Compulsory Service and the construction of a semi-structured interview script. The results indicate that the groups adopt positions that are convergent to the situations, because they work in the Rio de Janeiro area. They also understand the Military Compulsory Service as the moment of formation of the mobilizable combatant, who intends to awaken basic and necessary values.
